Monday Morning Musical Memory

It isn’t often that I dislike a song on first hearing it, and then decide later that I love it. This is the first time that I can remember it happening, and it was an important moment, because it marked the moment that I went from liking music that was pretty much that which my parents liked to developing my own musical taste.

The first time I heard this song, it was on Top of the Pops, with the band miming along. When I heard it again, it was on a Sunday evening whilst listening to the new Top 40 being counted down. I remember being slightly astonished that it had shot up the charts on the back of that television appearance. Then they played the record, and I found myself bouncing around the room to it. From that, it was a very short step to asking for the album for my birthday, and the transformation was complete.
